Alumni

The Department's alumni are its best advertisement. They work at various IT companies in various roles: developers and QA engineers, lecturers and project managers, analysts and information systems designers, system administrators and database developers. Over the 67 years of the Department of Information Control Systems' existence, a large number of alumni have received their higher education here. A significant share of them work abroad — in Poland, Germany, the United States, Japan, China and other countries. In this way, almost every one of our alumni has contributed to raising the profile and standing of both the ICS Department and the University.

Alumni who defended their theses in 2018 in the "Information Control Systems and Technology" educational and professional programme (speciality 122 Computer Science) shared their career experience and suggestions for the educational programme.

Vladyslava Kopytova

Magento backend lead developer. Responsibilities:

• developing software products using PHP;
• developing automated tests;
• analysing requirements for the systems being developed;
• designing information systems;
• distributing tasks among project team members.

Developers in this role are also responsible for configuring computer networks.

At work, I use material from the disciplines studied during my Master's training: "Agile Methodology for Developing Information Systems", "Requirements and Models of ICS", "Intelligent Control Systems and Technologies", "Development and Promotion of Web-based Systems", "Discrete Structures", and "Computer Network Optimisation".

In my opinion, it would be worth making the following changes to how the disciplines are taught:

1. Pay more attention to modern services that help with ICS development (for example, Docker, Git, Jenkins, CI/CD, New Relic), and make sure to use them while studying various disciplines.
2. Analyse modern services that help optimise application performance (for example, Varnish for web applications).
3. Look at typical subject domains in more detail during practical classes.

Maksym Soloviov

QA engineer. I use material from disciplines studied throughout my time at the University, related to discrete structures, probability theory, database technologies, programming in Java and C++, operating systems, parallel computing, computer networks, and cloud systems.

I suggest adding website development technologies (WordPress, Tilda or Wix) and the fundamental theory of software testing to the curriculum.

Kateryna Lyzohubova

Fullstack JavaScript developer (KVED 62.01). I also have an open KVED for consulting, under which I taught the JavaScript programming language in courses.

To perform my current duties I need knowledge of database design, discrete structures, SOAP, IT project planning, as well as hands-on experience with various programming languages and developing and building UML diagrams.

It would be interesting to receive specialised information from IT practitioners, as well as information on developing not only large but also medium and small IT projects.

Olena Karabytska

Android developer (KVED 62.01 and 58.29). My work requires knowledge of network information technologies, as well as disciplines related to in-depth study of databases (elements of their design and use).

It would be worth including topics related to the development and use of artificial intelligence elements in Master's training.

Illia Volchanetskyi

Computer programming (KVED 62.01). Responsibilities: developing and configuring computer networks at organisations.

In my professional work, I use knowledge from the following disciplines:

• DevOps — IT infrastructure management technologies for organisations (taught by Prof. S.F. Chalyi);
• computer network optimisation (taught by Prof. V.I. Saienko).

Stanislava Balakhovska

Professional specialisation: automated testing. Areas of work: developing and using databases, developing and using computer networks, and the visual design of information systems and their elements.

I suggest giving more information about modern technologies and tools for developing information systems, especially the ones used very often (CI/CD, Git, Jenkins).

Adrian Kozhanov

Currently working as an assistant at the ICS Department, NURE. Previously worked as a Research Analyst at Ciklum, where he used his knowledge of web page development and search engines.
