PhD admission

The Department of Information Control Systems trains Doctors of Philosophy under the educational and scientific programme «Computer Science» in speciality F3 Computer Science. Admission to NURE’s PhD programmes is competitive and follows the NURE Admission Rules for 2026 (Section VI).

Citizens of Ukraine are admitted to full-time study only under state or regional order. Tuition fees and the licensed intake are set out in Appendix 1 to the Admission Rules.

Entrance examinations

• Unified Entrance Exam (UEE)
  Results from 2024, 2025 or 2026

  A test of general academic competence and a foreign-language test. Applicants are admitted to the competition if the sum of both test scores is at least 300 points.

• Unified Entrance Examination in Research Methodology (UEERM)
  Results from 2025 or 2026

  Taken at test centres together with the UEE; the syllabus is approved by the Ministry of Education and Science.

• Entrance examination in speciality F3 Computer Science
  Administered by NURE

  Assesses competencies within the master’s programme syllabus. Applicants whose master’s degree is in a different speciality take the same examination — the examination syllabus provides for additional assessment where needed.

For certain categories of applicants (those denied special conditions for the UEE or UEERM), the Admission Rules provide for an oral foreign-language interview instead of the UEE and a research-methodology examination at NURE instead of the UEERM.

Competition score

Competition score = 0.2 × UEE foreign-language score + 0.2 × UEERM score + 0.6 × speciality entrance examination score.

How the speciality examination works

• The examination paper contains three questions from the entrance examination syllabus; the applicant writes answers by hand.
• Up to 45 minutes are allowed for preparing answers and up to 15 minutes for an oral interview with the subject commission.
• Each question is graded on a scale of 100–200 points and is passed if the score is at least 100; the overall grade is the arithmetic mean.
• The examination may be held in person or, by decision of the admissions committee, remotely in Google Meet with mandatory video recording.
• Applicants may additionally submit their own scientific publications on the speciality — via a Google form linked from the document submission procedure.

The F3 speciality examination syllabus covers four sections: information systems and technologies; artificial intelligence; mathematical modelling and decision-making; analysis of multidimensional data and computer vision technologies. The subject commission includes professors of the ICS Department.

  Applications from 29 September

  Speciality examination — 1–5 October, recommendations — no later than 10 October, enrolment — no later than 15 October.

Documents and steps

The competition application is submitted through the applicant e-cabinet. For the competitive selection you need:

• UEE results (2024, 2025 or 2026) and UEERM results (2025 or 2026);
• a competition application submitted in the e-cabinet;
• a military registration document (paper or electronic) — for applicants who have one.
